Oreland is located between the townships of Springfield and Upper Dublin in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. In 1686, Thomas Fitzwater discovered lime deposits on his land in the area, and he erected a kiln with which to process it. William Penn ordered a road to be built from the kiln to the port of the Delaware River, which was named Limekiln Pike and is still in use today. The lime and other ore deposits are what give Oreland its name.
