Doylestown is the county seat of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The borough’s origins date back to 1745 when William Doyle opened a tavern on what is now the northwest corner of Main and State Streets. Known originally as “William Doyle’s Tavern,” the strategically located hamlet soon grew into a village, and in the 19th century replaced Newtown as the county seat of Bucks County.
