Ambler is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, about 16 miles north of the city of Philadelphia. Originally known as the Village of Wissahickon, the borough’s name was changed in 1869 to honor Mary Johnson Ambler for her heroic efforts to assist in the recovery effort after the Great Train Wreck of 1856 which occurred in the area.
